The 8 Elite is the first smartphone SoC from the company to come with an all-big core setup, so it’s at par with arch-rival MediaTek. This eight-core processor features 2x prime cores at a scorching 4.32 GHz as well as 6x performance cores that can go as high as 3.53 GHz.

The smartphone SoC rides on the back of an industry-leading 24MB L2 cache and supports speedy 5,300MHz LPDDR5X RAM to promise a solid foundation for demanding tasks.

The 8 Elite is built on the cutting-edge 3nm process of TSMC and promises substantial performance gains over the predecessor. Qualcomm claims a 45% increase in CPU performance and a 44% boost in power efficiency.
Gamers will be interested in the redone Adreno GPU, which delivers 40% uplift in both performance, power efficiency, and also delivers 35% faster ray tracing performance.

According to Qualcomm, this efficiency will extend the session of gaming up to 2.5 hours. Meanwhile, the 8 Elite is the first-ever Qualcomm SoC that supports Unreal Engine 5.3, along with its Nanite virtualized geometry system.

AI will be an added area of interest for Qualcomm, and the 8 Elite is no different. The new Hexagon neural processing unit promises 45% AI processing speed increases while showing impressive performance per watt.

This chip is also outlined with Qualcomm’s AI Engine, which supports multimodal Gen AI to execute large and small AI models. This level of flexibility opens more avenues for developers to include more AI-powered features in smartphones.

Mobile photography enthusiasts have something to smile about, too. The 8 Elite gives its long-standing Spectra ISP an all-new AI ISP. It’s not just a fancy rebranding, at least according to Qualcomm: the AI ISP is now said to work hand in hand with the Hexagon NPU and has access to raw camera data to make real-time AI adjustments at 4K/60fps.

Connectivity-wise, the 8 Elite comes equipped with the Snapdragon X80 5G modem, the first to support 6x downlink carrier aggregation and AI-powered mmWave range extension. The new modem has its peak download speeds topped at 10 Gbps while having a theoretical maximum upload speed of 3.5 Gbps, according to Qualcomm.

The Snapdragon X80 is coupled with the FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity System. Qualcomm has significantly combined Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and UWB into a single 6nm chip for the first time in the world. It supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Ultra Wideband (UWB) connectivity.
